With the start of the new year, many Americans are considering their financial fears and what financial resolutions they hope to make in 2025. A new study shared by WalletHub found that 56% of Americans say inflation is their biggest financial concern for 2025.
Additionally, the report found that when it comes to finances, Americans’ biggest fears for the new year include recession, a stock market drop, job loss and real estate downturn.

Although the report found that over half of Americans plan to make finance-related New Year's resolutions, many remain optimistic about their finances in the new year. The study shared that nearly 2 in 3 people say that 2025 will likely be a better year for their wallet than 2024.
While 62% of Americans think that New Year’s resolutions add too much pressure to their lives, many are choosing to rethink how they manage their money. The study found that 41% of people making a financial resolution say they want to save more, while 21% want to spend less and 20% want to make more money.
Of those who plan to make New Year’s resolutions, financial resolutions were the most popular, topped only by health. In addition to saving more money, spending less money and making more money, Americans surveyed said they hope to pay off debt, improve financial literacy, improve budgeting and improve credit score.
Oftentimes, new year's resolutions are fueled by regret. According to the study, if Americans could give themselves one piece of financial advice in the past, nearly 50% said they would want to save more. Other than saving more, Americans said they wished they spent less money, made more money, improved their financial literacy and budgeting, paid off debts and improved their credit score.
With the new year right around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about what financial goals to set.
