Maine tells insurers they must honor referrals from any direct health care provider

What You Need To Know

Maine has required plans to let out-of-network primary care providers refer enrollees to in-network resources since 2019.
Now, a plan must let any direct care provider refer enrollee to in-network resources.
A plan can use the criteria it would have imposed on a referral from an in-network provider.
