Unemployment across Illinois inched lower in April, the eighth consecutive monthly decrease, but job growth all but stalled, according to a report from the state Department of Employment Security released Thursday.
Quinn has proposed sharp cuts in both Medicaid and pensions for government workers to save billions in expenses the state can't afford to pay. In that, he for the most part has the support of the state's business community.
Archer Daniels Midland Co. said Tuesday that it is firing 175 people at its headquarters in Illinois as part of a plan to cut what it now says will be 1,200 mostly salaried jobs across the company.
Gov. Quinn said he plans to push further business-friendly legislation this year, such as changes intended to lower pension and Medicaid expenses.
