Ten states have chosen not to expand Medicaid to uninsured, low-income adults — an optional provision of the ACA that is mainly paid for by federal funds.

“This is about more than insulin prices; it’s about the crushing cost pressures families are facing and the very real harm that comes when corporations exploit people who have no choice but to pay,” Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said.

The primary concern is the possible disruption of ongoing treatment for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and mobility-related conditions.

The program's funding outlook remains bleak, but conditions at the Social Security Administration appear to have stabilized.

The change could have "catastrophic consequences for beneficiaries," a Social Security advocate says.
