On Friday, President Donald Trump signed the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, which establishes federal guardrails for digital assets pegged to the U.S. dollar, lessening restrictions for crypto to be included in 401(k) plans.

Senator Bernie Sanders’ Pensions for All Act would require employers to provide a traditional pension plan for their workers or pay into the federal retirement system to ensure they receive the same amount of retirement benefits as members of Congress.

The Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act for the first time establishes federal guardrails for stablecoin – digital assets pegged to the U.S. dollar – which lessens restrictions for crypto to be included in 401(k) plans.

In June, the SEC said it will explore this new investment opportunity, as “there may be risks, as well as benefits, for retirement savers,” but now President Trump is expected to advance private market access to become a bigger piece of the 401(k) market.

Retirement services provider Voya Financial and Blue Owl Capital, a $273 billion credit-focused alternatives manager, are partnering to develop private markets investment products in all-in-one target date funds for employer-sponsored retirement savings plans.
