The list of defendants involved in the new ruling on the health plans' claims includes Sanofi, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk and the big PBMs — Optum Rx, Caremark and Express Scripts.
The United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals said registered nurses and other health care professionals plan to strike at more than two dozen Kaiser Permanente hospitals and clinics in California and Hawaii on Jan. 26.
“At a time when health care costs continue to soar, we are taking a stand against insulin price manipulation and fraud,” said Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway.
The nation’s three primary insulin manufacturers (Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi) and three largest PBMs (CVS Caremark, Express Script and OptumRx) are named in the lawsuit.
“This is about more than insulin prices; it’s about the crushing cost pressures families are facing and the very real harm that comes when corporations exploit people who have no choice but to pay,” Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said.
“Pharmaceutical companies should not take advantage of Hoosiers or any other American -- this includes Lilly, regardless of its Indiana roots,” Attorney General Todd Rokita said in a statement.
