Hotels are racing to help you unwind. At least, that’s whatyou’d be led to believe if you’ve been following the flurry ofwellness news that is suddenlydominating the high-end travel industry.

And that doesn’t just mean that they’re looking to make an extrabuck in the spa. (Though wellness tourism is poised to become a$678.5 billion business by 2017, according to the most recentGlobal Wellness Tourism Economy report.)

All around the world, properties are rolling out programs thathelp you stick to your fitness routine, preserve your sleepschedule, or tap into local wellness traditions — somequirkier than others. Here, the trends to try (or avoid) on yournext trip.

The big chill

You’ve heard of cryotherapy: You step into a chamber half-nakedand get smacked with air that’s as cold as -240 degrees Fahrenheitfor up to three minutes. Athletes and celebs have embraced it as away to bounce back from tough workouts or combat the effects ofaging. So it’s no wonder that hotel spas are finding less clinical,and less extreme, ways to get in on the action.
