Are you a devotee of the FIRE movement (Financial Independence/Retire Early)? Or do you just hate your job and want to retire early? Either way, you might be interested in reviewing this list of 10 states where that might be possible. HowMuch.net has gone over the numbers compiled by GoBankingRates on how much you'd need in each state to retire early, and come up with a ranking of every state in the country. They calculated the annual cost of living in each state for someone in each age bracket. The results were $69,034, $73,905 and $64,972 for people aged 35, 45 and 55, respectively. Then they adjusted the cost of living, again for each state, with the aid of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' 2017 Consumer Expenditure Survey and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center. One caveat: The numbers in the slideshow above, while calculated at the standard four percent per year rate at which retirees are counseled to withdraw their retirement savings, are not adjusted for inflation. Neither is the cost of living, so obviously the further along you get in retirement, the more variation there will be from these figures. Still, if you're just desperate to leave the job behind—or to start on that next great adventure in life—these 10 states are where you might have the best shot at doing so.   READ MORE: 10 companies where a million dollar retirement is possible 10 best suburbs for retirement 10 best cities for active adults to retire
