The White House has long said that corporate tax cuts will trickle down to American workers and pad their paychecks, but it could take eight years for the cuts to boost wages much.
Companies are starting to reckon with how the workplace allows, or enables, inappropriate behavior. That means not only looking at structural issues but scrutinizing routine work events.
A bill currently in committee would create a national paid-time off policy for sick days and other personal needs, and businesses that comply would be exempt from tougher state and municipal rules
People who think their employers are fair and transparent in how they determine pay are more likely to be happy at work than those actually paid the going rate for their jobs.
The basic compliance function of human resourcesto ensure a company doesn't violate the lawis often interpreted as a mission to protect a company from lawsuits, and employees know it.
Fresh college graduates might be attracted to downtown bars and carless commutes, but these days, for older millennials starting families and taking out mortgages, a job in the suburbs has its own appeal.
While telecommuting, the umbrella term for any work occurring outside the traditional office, has ballooned over the last 20 years, some offices are rethinking overly broad policies.
