President Barack Obama reached into his partys progressive past to deliver a robust endorsement of higher taxes for the wealthy, government intervention in the economy and an array of new benefits for lower- and middle- income Americans.

On Tuesday, Obama, along with Vice President Joe Biden, met with 19 members of Congress to try and figure out areas of potential agreement.

Tax filing for 2014 opens Jan. 20. The biggest change for most taxpayers is on Line 61 of Form 1040.

A substantial amount of skepticism, perhaps even within the White House, existed about whether the health care legislation did enough on costs.

On the same day, two separate think tanks dropped studies on what a subsidy smack down would mean for consumers.

The measure, passed 252-172, would require employers to provide coverage to workers who put in at least 40 hours a week.
