Some of the police officers who responded to the elementary school shooting in Newtown are so traumatized they haven't been working, but they have to use sick time and could soon be at risk of going without a paycheck, a union official said Wednesday.

In Pennsylvania, the number of unemployed workers dropped by 16,000 in November, marking the highest decline since 1983 and the second largest decrease on record, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

Workers probably won't feel the full brunt of next year's tax increases in their January paychecks, but don't be fooled by the temporary reprieve.

In the last year, Wyoming has seen an increase in industrial employment by 1.2 percent as the state now accounts for 1,200 manufacturers and 33,463 workers.

Within health systems, salaries rose by 2.8 percent while salaries at hospitals grew by 2.5 percent.

Nevada saw a 2.2 percent increase in manufacturing employment in the past year, according to the 2013 Nevada Manufacturers Directory, an industrial directory published annually by Manufacturers' News Inc. in Evanston, Ill.
