Theres a crisis unfolding within the insurance industry, and it will touch nearly every carrier and agency, large or small. Its an issue that will impact operations and profitability its the retiring workforce.
When employees consider their out-of-pocket costs for medical tests, procedures and prescription drugs, terms like "free" and "copay" obscure reality and result in bad choices.
There's a simple reason fee-based life and annuity product sales have been low: typical insurers have paid too little attention to the needs of RIAs, the people who have been selling fee-based products all along.
While the prescription drug businesses at pharmacies has been relatively stable, front-of-the-store sales have been in decline. Giant retailers like Walmart Inc. are also looking to play a bigger role.
Pilots at American and Delta are studying ways to reconstitute or replace retirement plans that were scrapped or frozen during the airlines past financial struggles.
Although its become a trendy perk at some companies, alcohol can not only be a divisive issue in the workplace, it could impair recruitment for the best candidates who may be wary of a culture that embraces alcohol at work.
