To keep up with rivals in both the traditional fund and ETF sectors, Fidelity is lowering the investment minimums and the expenses on many Spartan index funds on Jan. 1.
T. Rowe Price said it had net revenues of $736.8 million, net income of $206.8 million, and diluted earnings per common share of $.79, in the second quarter vs. year-ago net revenues of $713.7 million, net income of $204.7 million and diluted earnings per common share of $.76.
Inflows into exchange-traded funds were $16.3 billion, up from $12.1 billion in June; long-term net inflows were $13.3 billion, according to Morningstar.
The second quarter was not kind to the markets or to mutual funds, with the S&P 500 off by close to 3 percent on a total-return basis. The average balanced mutual fund fell by roughly 2.5 percent, according to Morningstar.
For the first month in five, investors were net redeemers of fund assets, withdrawing a close to $42 billion from the conventional funds business, according to a Lipper report released early Wednesday.
